Bikes Taken Then Returned To Summertown Youngsters
A resident of the Summertown area reported bicycles belonging to her children stolen during the weekend, however they were returned once law enforcement officers became involved.
The bicycles, valued at $300, were reportedly stolen from a home on Highway 20. The resident told deputies with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department that she believed they had been taken by her ex-boyfriend.
Deputies went to his home and confronted him. He reportedly told them he had taken the bikes two weeks prior. He explained that he had given the bicycles to the children and that he had sought permission from the property owner to go onto the property and retrieve them.
Deputies explained that since the bikes had been given as a gift, he had no legal right to take them and needed to return them. The bikes were returned to the children that afternoon without any further intervention.
Although the complainant had at first believed a laptop computer had been stolen, as well, she later informed officials that she had located it at her home.
